Eric Hughes Performs at Zach Wamp Fundraiser - May 14, 2010

Memphis, TN
Tennessee Gubernatorial Candidate Zach Wamp recently toured Memphis, speaking to local citizens and gaining support for the governor's race. Among these events was "Blues & Barbeque", a meet & greet party hosted by Tom and Katie Hutton, in their beautiful home. Mr. Wamp stressed the importance of Memphis to both the state's economy and it's culture. "It's been awhile since we had a governor who cared enough about West Tennessee".
As guests and staff mingled and enjoyed barbeque, Hughes played the blues on his guitar and dobro. Eric performed on the behalf of Memphis Blues Society, which he formed in 2005.

Eric Hughes Honored in Memphis Paper - March 26, 2010

Memphis, TN
Local bluesman Eric "Scrappie" Hughes, a favorite in the clubs on Beale Street, was recently featured in the Commercial Appeal's "GoMemphis" feature.
Journalist Bob Mehr recently conducted a phone interview with Hughes, in which they discussed film and literature, aside from Blues music. Hughes has been recently reading Peter Hathaway Capstick's novels, as well as "Guidebook For Marines", originally issued to Hughes at Parris Island's Marine Corps boot camp.

Memphis Mike Making Strong Recovery - February 16, 2010

E.H. Band guitarist Memphis Mike Forrest is on the mend after a double hernia operation last Friday. Mike said today that he was resting well, and healing up. He is, of course, antsy to get back onstage and play some blues. Upcoming shows in March at Club 152 and Wet Willie's will give Mike something to sink his teeth into, and the band can't wait.

Dennis Brooks - October 21, 2009

I heard from a friend last night that Dennis Brooks had a fatal heart attack yesterday... gonna miss you, Dennis.
Dennis Brooks was a friend of the Memphis Blues scene if there ever was one. Not only a fan and supporter, but also a promoter and part-time booking agent. I say "part-time" because Dennis never collected percentages or commission from the artists that I know of. Helping to make connections between artist and venue was his way of contributing to the Blues scene.
Dennis was a founder of the Beale Street Blues Society as well as an advisor to the Memphis Blues Society; moreover, he simply loved the Blues.
Seldom was there any significant Blues event here in Memphis at which Dennis wasn't present.
Remember, y'all- we are only on this earth for a few moments. Be sweet to people.
Dennis Brooks sure was.

Rain & Cold? What Rain & Cold? - October 17, 2009

Decatursville, TN
While drizzling rain and cold may deter most music fans, a few stalwart festival goers remained as the Eric Hughes Band rolled into town and took the stage at the Decatursville Arts Festival Friday night.
Camped beneath tarps and awnings, and snuggled into jackets and raincoats, a few dozen audience members enjoyed a set of Memphis blues by these award-winning Beale Street favorites.
Sponsored by the Decatursville's "Main Street Association", the stage setup and live sound were excellent; the well-engineered PA was complemented by a visually appealing Harvest theme, complete with pumpkins, fall foliage, and hay bales upon which the band set their amplifiers.
The Eric Hughes Band wishes to thank the folks at the Festival, and the blues lovers in Decatursville for a fun adventure and road trip, and a great time.

Back on Beale - June 22, 2009

E.H. Band to perform in Hot Springs AR this weekend... - May 6, 2009

Hot Springs, AR
Beale Street bad boys (and girl) the Eric Hughes Band bring their brand of music and mischief to Hot Springs this coming weekend, performing Friday and Saturday night at Odie's House of Blues. Odie's has carved a solid foothold since their recent opening in the live music scene of Arkansas by providing music lovers with some rather high-end regional and national entertainers. Located at 3413 Central Avenue, Odie's House of Blues has scored with food critics as well, serving up some killer pecan-crusted catfish, as well as another favorite- Beef Wellington.
Living Blues Magazine called the Eric Hughes Band: "guaranteed crowd-pleasers, so whether you come for the cuisine or the Blues, neither will disappoint.
